Researching moral injury to understanding its impact on veterans, to develop effective treatments, and to create support systems that promote healing and long-term well-being.

Moral injury is not recognized in the DSM, which makes treatments and viable options less accessible for those affected. The lack of sufficient research into moral injury and its impact means we only have a limited understanding of how to effectively address and treat it.

To Build A Center Dedicated to Advancing The Understanding and Healing of Moral Injury

OAR Foundation is conducting comprehensive case studies and research to support the development of effective treatments.

Our goal is to create a center to provide evidence-based treatments, educate the public, and advocate for policies that support mental health and well-being.

EDUCATION & ADVOCACY

We use education and advocacy to help military leaders, veterans, and mental health professionals better understand moral injury and how to respond to it.

We use panel discussions to create a space for military leaders to openly discuss the impact of moral injury and explore ways to support those affected. These panels encourage conversations on leadership ethics, mental resilience, and community support,  helping leaders understand how their decisions shape the well-being of service members.

HKIA Project

Operation Allies Refuge Foundation is studying moral injuries suffered by veterans of the Afghanistan withdrawal. We want to know the depths of these wounds and to find the best ways to support our men and women. Surveys and interviews are 100 percent confidential. Our goal is to use this knowledge to push for better mental health care and strong, direct help for these veterans.

MORAL INJURIES

Our philosophy behind moral injury is based on the understanding that it stems from a reflection of what we did or didn’t do, often involving actions or decisions that conflict with deeply held personal values.

We recognize that moral injury is not just a psychological issue, but also an interdisciplinary one that requires attention to the spiritual health of the individual, as it is often rooted in a crisis of personal meaning and values.

We believe that the person experiencing moral injury holds the key to their own healing, with support guiding them to rediscover purpose, restore their moral framework, and healing by reconnectiing to their values and spirituality.

Ultimately, healing from moral injury is a deeply personal journey that requires addressing the emotional, mental, and spiritual aspects of the individual
